The "Nobel Prize" family home in Rishon Lezion
This independent family homes were established to fill the need for an out-home-placement for children in the community who required greater care and rehabilitation. The local authorities wished to address this need through the single unit model of family homes.
The family home is based on the family educational model, alongside the provision of central social services. The professional team includes a social worker, a psychologist and of course a “parent couple” who function as the children’s parents for all intents and purposes. The children attend the schools in the community with the other children in the neighbourhood where the family house is located. During the afternoons, they participate in various activities such as enrichment classes and tutoring.
The staff of the family home maintains close contact with the community members in the area and the family home is open to members and friends from the community, parents and children. These community family homes enable the integration of the biological family into the child’s life, helping us to enhance their quality of life. The regional welfare department is also involved in caring for the children and their families by familiarising themselves with the children’s family background.
The family home was established in cooperation with the Rishon Lezion Municipality and aims to provide a healthy living and learning arrangement for the city’s at-risk children. In the family home, great emphasis is put on the integration of the children into the wider community and on building the connection with their families, whilst encouraging them academically.
